Mobile recumbent chairs, sometimes referred to as geri-chairs or convalescent chairs, are specialized recliners that provide seating for residents who are recovering from illness and residents who have difficulty supporting themselves in a seated position. These chairs are also used as treatment chairs, resident positioning chairs, and transporters. Several features, including arms that drop below the seating surface and chair tilting mechanisms, can be helpful with lateral transfers, repositioning, and assisting residents from a sitting to a standing position. In addition, most mobile recumbent chairs are upholstered in vinyl or other non-permeable materials to ease cleaning and disinfecting.
