Urethral occlusion devices include products that block the flow of urine by either squeezing the urethra shut (men) or creating a barrier at the bladder neck (women). Examples of these devices include penile clamps and compression rings for men and inserts for women. These devices must be removed at regular intervals to empty the bladder and should be used only by ambulatory, mentally competent individuals who are able to understand their proper use, adjust them by hand, clean them, and follow a bladder-emptying schedule.
