Automated Medication Dispensing Carts offer secure medication dispensation and tracking at the bedside or wherever a resident may be located during their medication time. These carts feature a computer terminal with tracking software on the cabinet to audit access to the system and control electronically locked medication drawers. Access to the system is typically provided via magnetic strip card access, bar-coded access, and/or manual locks. Automated medication dispensation carts are often used in conjunction with barcode systems in an effort to decrease medication errors at the point of care. Wireless data transfer is typically offered to provide communication with automated medication distribution systems and other external information systems.
