Mobile recumbent chairs, sometimes referred to as geri-chairs or convalescent chairs, are specialized recliners that provide seating for residents who are recovering from illness and residents who have difficulty supporting themselves in a seated position. These chairs are also used as treatment chairs, resident positioning chairs, and transporters. Several features, including arms that drop below the seating surface and chair tilting mechanisms, can be helpful with lateral transfers, repositioning, and assisting residents from a sitting to a standing position. In addition, most mobile recumbent chairs are upholstered in vinyl or other non-permeable materials to ease cleaning and disinfecting. Other options typically offered by these chairs include a host of positioning cushions, 3-position or infinite reclining positions, Trendelenburg position (the position in which the body is supine with the head lower than the feet), side tables, cup holders, and IV pole attachments.
The products listed here will support residents weighing up to 400 lbs. Please refer to the “Mobile Recumbent Chairs – Heavy Duty/Bariatric” section of the website for products that will support weights of 450 lbs. or greater.
