Bed mounted transfer and repositioning rails can either provide support to those who need assistance with transferring in and out of bed, or they assist residents and caregivers with bed mobility and repositioning. Not all devices are designed to do both. These rails are available in a variety of shapes, sizes and weight capacities to meet the individual needs of the resident. Although some of these devices are mounted directly to the bed frame, many utilize a platform that is placed between the box spring and mattress. While this setup eliminates the need for tool installation and allows the rails to be easily removed for transport and storage, it may also increase safety risk or risk of skin ulcers from pressure points. Please note that some products cannot bear the full weight of individuals during the transfer or repositioning process.
