Power assisted commodes provide lowering and standing assistance to residents when using the toilet or a bedside commode. Assistance is provided via a lifting seat that is powered by one of several methods including: electric or battery power, water power, or through the use of air-filled struts. Some units are made to be specifically used as either a bedside commode or a raised toilet seat, while others are made to accommodate both needs. In addition, some of these commodes feature wheels that allow them to be used as a transport device from bedroom to toilet. Other features to look for include arms that raise out of the way to facilitate lateral transfers and folding frames to facilitate transport and storage of the device.
