Barrier free and ADA compliant showers offer accessible features such as low threshold heights for wheelchair access and easy step-in, increased clearances, accessible control locations, grab bars, and folding seats. Although some showers may be considered "barrier free" or "accessible", they do not necessarily meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines for accessibility. Many manufacturers provide barrier free showers that meet these guidelines as well as well barrier free showers that do not. If you are required to meet ADA guidelines, consult with the manufacturer to be sure they can provide units that meet ADA guidelines. You should also check with your city and state for code compliance.
