A lower bed can reduce the risk of injury if a resident rolls or falls out of bed. Low beds are fixed-height beds that are typically 6" to 7" from the floor to the top of the mattress deck. Hi/Low beds are adjustable in height and can be fully electric, semi-electric, and manual. Hi/low beds provide the safety of a lower bed, while offering the ability to adjust the height of the mattress deck for transfers, entry/exit from the bed, and the provision of a comfortable work height for caregivers. Typically, only the full electric beds have powered height adjustment of the bed. Semi-electric beds offer electric head and foot angle adjustment, but the overall height of the bed is adjusted manually with a crank mechanism.
